Ankang Travel Guide
Ankang, a city in southern Shaanxi in a long valley, with a large river, an island-dotted lake, steep forest mountains, and a slow walk by the water.
Ankang Travel guide
Ankang is situated in the southern part of Shaanxi Province, nestled in a narrow valley flanked by mountain ranges to the north and south. A large river runs through the city's center, with towns sprawling along its banks. The area lies at the intersection of northern and southern climates, characterized by landscapes where mountains and water intertwine.
In the heart of the city, a vast lake has been formed by damming the river. Scattered islands dot the lake, their silhouettes blending seamlessly with the surrounding mountains. A boat ride on the lake offers an up-close view of the waterside scenery. Along the shore, wetlands remain, providing opportunities to observe waterbirds.
To the south of the city, steep mountains rise majestically. The mountainous region is covered in forests, with well-maintained walking trails. After rain, mist often shrouds the valleys, making the mountain ridges appear to float above. There are also valleys carved by flowing water, where cascades and pools follow one another.
Ankang is a land sustained by the bounty of both rivers and mountains. In this riverside town, ancient transport routes still linger, and old villages dot the riverbanks. The city is accessible from Xi'an by rail or road, offering visitors a chance to enjoy both water-bound and mountainous landscapes.
