Hulin Travel guide

Hulin is a city in eastern Heilongjiang, administered by Jixi. To the north stand the ridges of the Wanda Mountains, and to the east flows the Ussuri River, which forms the border. Blessed with the black soil of the Sanjiang Plain, it is a land rich in water and green. Open scenery spreads between mountain and river.

Wide wetlands remain within the city area, known as habitat for water birds. In the belt where marshes and rivers interlace, reeds spread wide. From spring into autumn many migratory birds visit, and the waterside bustles. Walking the water's edge in quiet, one can see birds up close.

Rice growing thrives on the plains, and paddies drawing water from the river spread around. Rice raised making the most of the gap between warm and cold is a representative product of this land. In autumn the paddies dye themselves golden, and the scenery of ripeness runs on. From the road that follows the canals, the wide farmland can be taken in at a sweep.

To reach Hulin, one travels from central Jixi by rail or road. The sights spread across the city area, so touring with generous allowance for travel time is best. It is a land suited to a nature-centered journey that slowly tastes the scenery of wetland and farmland. The face of the waterside, changing with the season, can be watched at leisure.
