Best time to visit

Autumn is the most beautiful season in Jiuzhaigou. Many people come for the sight of the forests by the lakes taking on color and that coloring reflected on the water. Spring brings fresh greenery and flowers, and summer is cool and suited to escaping the heat, though it is a rainy time. In winter the snow scenery is magical, while freezing roads can make access difficult.

Because of the high elevation the sunlight is strong, and sun protection is needed all year round.

Local food

The food around Jiuzhaigou centers on highland cooking with Tibetan influences. Dishes using yak meat, butter tea and tsampa made from kneaded roasted barley flour can be tasted. What can be eaten inside the scenic area is limited, so it is common to take meals near the entrance.
